“A canoe turns over. The search results as of today, September 12, 2024 at 12H00 hours, are 39 dead bodies discovered. The French navy continues to investigate at sea”, said the statement of the National Navy of Senegal.

On Tuesday, the latest news reported 26 dead, while authorities had said they were continuing the search.

Meanwhile, local platforms announced that the boat with more than 200 migrants was trying to reach Europe and overturned about three kilometers off the coast of Senegal; however, later the portal Dakaractu reported that they were arriving around 86 passengers.

Meanwhile, the migrant aid platform Alarma Telefónica had alerted to the shipwreck in the Atlantic.

“The day before yesterday, in the night and indifference, a canoe heading for Spain sank 4 km from Mbour with 200 passengers. There are a hundred missing, some bodies recovered and only 20 survivors”, he insisted.

They also described it as “another catastrophe that we blame for the unjust, murderous and restrictive migration policies of which the governments of these states are responsible”.
